Just curious: Back in 1945, did we have any actual proof that Hitler was actually dead?

The Russians didn't just take their word for it. It's not as if Stalin was the trusting type. In the end even he accepted what his forensics experts told him when they determined the half-burned corpse they had was indeed Hitler.
