My friend was punched and got a broken jaw last night, is it GBH or ABH?

Not so sure your friend was a "proper" sweet guy, whatever the hell that means. Folks have a tendency when drunk to shoot off their mouths in insulting ways and often reap the reward for doing that. Not at all certain that your friend didn't do just that. Thing is about demanding justice is that sometimes that is exactly what you get.
